ABOUT

Vitus Librarian is a collection of rabbit holes—a little corner of the internet for following interesting things wherever they lead.

It begins with something that catches my attention: a book, a film, a photograph, a song, an object, a person, a place, a piece of history, or something discovered in an obscure corner of the internet. From there, I follow the connections and see where they take me.

One thing becomes another.

Books become history.
History becomes music.
Music becomes memory.
Memory becomes place.
Place becomes something else entirely.

There is no particular destination.

The point is to follow the thread.

The name comes from St. Vitus, traditionally associated with dancers and performers, and from the strange history of dancing mania: movement that seemed to spread from one person to another.

Vitus works much the same way.

One idea leads to another. One discovery sparks another. A passing reference sends you looking for something else, and suddenly you’ve wandered somewhere you never expected to go.

One interesting thing should lead to another.

I’m Jacob Daugherty, MLS—a librarian by trade, a reader by nature, and a lifelong consumer of stories in all their forms. This site is where I collect, catalog, connect, and make sense of the things that capture my attention.

Some rabbit holes begin with a book. Others begin with a photograph, a strange fact, a forgotten website, a historical footnote, or a question I can’t stop thinking about.

I don’t always know where they’ll end.

That’s part of the fun.

Think of Vitus Librarian as a personal library with the shelves left open. There are no prescribed paths and no particular order. You can wander in, pull something from the shelf, follow a reference to something else, and keep going until you’ve found yourself somewhere completely unexpected.

Come curious. Follow the thread. See where you end up.
